About the Role
The Uber Legal Team is currently searching a Senior Counsel, Complex Insurance Litigation & Strategy, with expertise in trial practice, general liability litigation, advising business partners, and managing high-volume litigation. This position is open in our San Francisco, Chicago, and New York City offices.
What You'll Do
- Manage a portfolio of high exposure claims and litigation (auto-focused).
- Attend and manage complex trials and litigation strategy; travel required.
- Analyze claims/cases to optimally participate in decisions related to resolution strategy and innovating legal precedent.
- Assist in the management of outside counsel with a regionalized focus on Central/East matters of high-severity.
- Work across our business and legal teams on risk management initiatives.
- Support new insurance initiatives and work closely with the insurance legal team on insurance for Uber and its entities around the world.
Basic Qualifications
- A minimum of 8 years of insurance company or law firm experience litigating auto liability claims/cases, with specific experience handling high-severity matters.
- J.D. and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
Preferred Qualifications
- In-house experience is strongly preferred, with significant experience managing a case through pleadings, motion practice, discovery, dispute resolution and trial (both state and federal).
- Proven case evaluation abilities, critical thinking skills and the capacity to oversee a large portfolio of high-severity matters.
- First chair mediation and trial experience.
- Extensive deposition experience, including presenting both lay and expert witnesses.
- Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative with both business leaders and legal groups, with a proven ability to build relationships, gain credibility and trust, and partner across functions to build consensus.
- Exceptional communication skills, with an ability to distill complex legal issues into actionable guidance for non-legal audiences.
- Curiosity, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address them.

For Chicago, IL-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$228,000 per year - USD$253,000 per year.
For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$253,000 per year - USD$281,000 per year.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$253,000 per year - USD$281,000 per year.
For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp.
