About the role
As an Employment Compliance Manager, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring our employment practices meet federal, state, and local regulations and Wonder’s standards, as we scale up our restaurant locations rapidly across multiple states and regions. You’ll partner cross-functionally with our Legal, Operations, and People teams to develop, implement, and maintain compliance programs, policies, and procedures.
This role will be based in our New York City or Parsippany office with periodic travel to Wonder locations including new regions as they open.
In this role, you will:
Own and evolve Wonder’s labor & employment compliance policies and programs, including wage & hour regulations (such as scheduling, meal/breaks, pay and overtime, etc.), discrimination and harassment, hiring and background checks, 1099/W2 classification laws and much more
Lead risk assessments and develop internal controls to ensure we are aligned with regulatory requirements for employees across all jurisdictions, and proactively create strategies to mitigate risks
Develop training programs for business & operational teams across the company to meet compliance standards.
Support Legal and HRBP complaints and investigations to ensure ongoing compliance.
Partner with Food Safety and Operational Safety teams to create a strong environment in Wonder locations.
Help lead the creation of a scalable employee handbook that applies across and expanding list of states and cities.
Stay updated on any changes to applicable laws and regulations to ensure timely updates to internal policies, training, and procedures.
Be a cultural leader to foster an environment where Wonder complies with all laws and focused on best practices and risk mitigation for the benefit of all Wonder employees.
The experience you have
5+ years of experience in labor & employment compliance and/or employment law, ideally with exposure to audits, investigations, or regulatory oversight.
Deep knowledge of multi-jurisdictional employment laws, particularly as they relate to hourly workforces in the retail and/or manufacturing environment.
Experience designing, executing and scaling compliance programs, with a strong eye for operational risks and gaps.
Ability to translate legal and regulatory language into clear, actionable guidance.
Familiarity with HRIS/timekeeping systems (e.g., Workday, UKG, ADP) and their role in labor compliance.
Track record of working effectively across legal, operations, and HR teams to influence outcomes and drive change.

Base Salary: $122,000-147,000
