About The Opportunity
Grubhub is seeking a Senior Product Designer to join the Consumer Design organization and lead high-impact initiatives across critical growth domains. In this role, you will be responsible for driving design excellence across: (1) Search: Reimagine our search and discovery experience by leading AI-driven initiatives that eliminate friction and surface the most relevant, personalized results instantly (2) Ads: Design innovative, high-impact ad solutions that deliver results for advertisers and elevate the user experience (3) Traffic Generation: Optimize SEO/AEO user journeys, designing scalable solutions that maximize organic traffic and enhance discoverability.
In this role, you will actively mentor and elevate fellow designers, fostering high design standards across the team. You are detail-oriented and exceptionally organized, ensuring clean execution and documentation. You will mobilize cross-functional partners with strong communication and a customer-obsessed approach, expertly driving buy-in with stakeholders to collaboratively ship exceptional design work.
The Impact You Will Make
Design Strategy & Vision Ownership: Own the design vision and execution for high-impact initiatives, encompassing both 0-1 products and delivering significant improvements to existing features.
User Discovery & Research: Partner closely with User Research to conduct in-depth discovery and lead design-led research to uncover unmet user needs, pain points, and growth opportunities.
Strategic & Business Impact: Partner closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to define product strategy, roadmap, and requirements. You will act as the design leader in your area of expertise, demonstrating a strong understanding of the business and ensuring design drives measurable impact throughout the product lifecycle.
End-to-End Execution: Lead the entire design process, from initial concept and ideation through user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI. Ensure a cohesive and delightful user experience while proactively identifying opportunities to contribute new patterns and components to the design system.
Stakeholder Alignment & Influence: Expertly communicate design rationale, build consensus, and influence decision-making among cross-functional teams and leadership to secure buy-in for strategic design direction.
Navigating Ambiguity: Thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment, embracing ambiguity and proactively bringing clarity and direction to complex, open-ended problems.
Mentorship & Leadership: Act as a mentor to fellow designers, actively elevating the design craft, setting high quality standards, and contributing to the overall growth and health of the design organization.
What You Bring to the Table
5+ years of professional experience as an in-house Product Designer for B2C brands, preferably within eCommerce, technology, or multi-sided marketplaces.
BA/BS degree required in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
Excels in design fundamentals (Visual Hierarchy, Interaction Design, Accessibility, and Platform Conventions) and demonstrates fluency across various modalities, from responsive web to native applications.
Demonstrates deep understanding of how to leverage and contribute to a design system to efficiently solve user problems and improve existing components and patterns.
Possesses a deep curiosity and ability to consider product strategy and vision, connecting design decisions to their ultimate business impact.
Mastery of user-centered design methodologies (e.g., journey mapping, wireframing, usability testing), with repeated success demonstrating how these methods achieve positive business outcomes.
Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex design rationale and influence diverse stakeholders (from peers to leadership) across all organizational levels.
Strong leadership qualities and ability to drive initiatives autonomously, requiring minimal direction while expertly navigating ambiguity and influencing cross-functional partners.
Proficient with industry-standard design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, AI-assisted tools) and continually shapes how the team leverages best practices and methodologies.
Committed to continuous improvement, proactively seeking and applying feedback without defensiveness.

Our hybrid model requires 3 days a week in the office. That said, many team members choose to come in more often to take advantage of in-person collaboration and connection. You're welcome—and encouraged—to be in the office up to 5 days a week if it works for you.

New York: $162,000 - $170,000 per year.
Illinois: $146,000-$153,000 per year.
