Yahoo is seeking a seasoned audience development strategist to lead the Yahoo News social media team, which manages our channels for Yahoo News, Entertainment and Life on all platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, LinkedIn and other emerging platforms). This is both a strategic and tactical management role. The ideal candidate has experience and demonstrated success in setting and executing strategy and leading a team to grow new audiences, deepen engagement and establish habitual and loyal relationships with social communities. Applicants should have hands-on experience programming social accounts for media outlets, as well as a broad and deep understanding of platform best practices, industry trends and audience consumption habits.
The right person for this role will be Extremely Online, and able to identify and translate complex news narratives, internet culture and trends for users who may not be. The leader we seek will be:

Excited to amplify the Yahoo brand voice, mission and vision by creating memorable social campaigns for key original franchises and standout formats, experiences and templates for day-to-day posting to highlight our network of premium partners.
A data-driven decision-maker who regularly studies metrics reports to evaluate what’s working and what’s not in an effort to find new growth opportunities that drive impact.
The best candidates will be curious and quick to explore emerging formats and new platforms, and eager to expand on established social video, audio and visual formats. They will also be fluent in social listening and analytics tools and will be able to skillfully extract meaningful insights to guide and shape our tactics, helping us pivot when necessary. This position requires sound editorial judgment and grounding in journalistic standards as well as strong organizational and communication skills.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a social growth and engagement strategy aligned with the broader Yahoo News content strategy, mission, vision and brand voice to be executed across channels
Lead our team of social media staffers
Craft and guide Yahoo’s approach to interactions and conversations with social users and social media policies and best practices
Partner with editorial teams, attending planning and brainstorm meetings and pitching and executing social-first storytelling
Use analytics tools to set, track and lead the team to meet quarterly and annual growth and engagement goals
Work with Visuals team to implement a holistic and cohesive design refresh for the Yahoo social experiences and templates
Support all key brand and content initiatives with high-impact rollout campaigns
Work with product and other cross-functional teams to help expand the distribution opportunities for our original journalism and broad network of premium content partners
Stay current on industry trends and best practices to inform our social strategy
Maintain relationships with platform partners
Qualifications:
Minimum of 7 years experience in Audience Development/Social in media/news and at least 5 years of managing a team and mentoring junior members
Deep knowledge of functionality, native features and native user habits across leading social platforms
Record of setting, tracking and achieving quarterly and annual growth goals
Advocate for data-driven decision making and using data to manage accountability across direct reports as well as provide intelligence for other editorial leads
Strong understanding and desire to master all facets of audience development including traffic growth strategies and audience diversification efforts
Eager to experiment and have a deep passion for new platforms. The audience development world is constantly evolving along with the platforms on which we work, and this person needs to be a champion for staying ahead of the game

The compensation for this position ranges from $129,210.00 - $281,305.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
