A Little About Us

The User Experience Research & Consumer Insights (UXR-CI) team is the core user-focused research function supporting Yahoo’s GM organizations through all stages of the product life cycle. Made up of subject matter experts leveraging qualitative and quantitative methods to understand customer needs, wants and motivations, this team provides actionable insights and recommendations that inform consumer-first strategies and product decisions.

We are looking to hire a User Experience Research Senior Manager for Yahoo Finance.

A Lot About You

You are passionate about digital financial media and research tools. You have done extensive user experience research and/or consumer insights research for digital financial media and information services and have a deep understanding of digital media across platforms.

As a Senior Manager of Yahoo Finance UX and CI Research, you have a proven track record of shaping and delivering a wide range of generative and evaluative research projects across the entirety of the product life cycle. Thought leadership in financial media and information services research as well as insightful deliverables are second nature, because they are critical in enabling our partners to make better informed, confident decisions and to set the strategy for future products and features.

Collaboration with stakeholders on all levels comes easy to you. You enjoy designing and executing qualitative and quantitative research to deliver relevant and timely key findings. You are familiar with working in a fast-paced organization with agile product and design teams. Your hands-on experience in both traditional and modern approaches to recruitment, diverse research methods, and reporting allow you to facilitate strong projects and to manage and mentor your direct report to comprehensive and impactful insights.

No matter if you are engaging in usability studies, survey design, contextual inquiry, usage data analysis, card sorts or ethnographic research, you are a deep and insightful thinker who both revels in the challenge of a complex problem and can bring a fresh perspective to your work.

A Little About The Role:

  • Work closely as an embedded UXR/CI leader with the Yahoo Finance product, design and leadership team to provide them actionable insights.

  • Lead a direct report who conducts together with you conduct qualitative and quantitative research projects for product, design and content teams as well as strategy and sr. leadership of Yahoo's business units.

  • Communicate and present research findings and insights to technical and non-technical audiences on all levels.

  • Create research roadmaps and manage internal resources and vendors to ensure the timely delivery of insightful deliverables

  • Develop efficient work processes and procedures fit to serve its agile product and design customers.

  • Coach team members about research methodologies and driving research’s pov for product/ design strategy and day to day implementation

  • Identify key research objectives in partnership with product, design and engineering teams to address insights needs for a variety of products and projects throughout the product life cycle.

  • Create deliverables with actionable insights and guide your team to synthesize results into a coherent and truthful story, as well as create effective models that reflect those results such as journey maps, process flows and user segments.

  • Socialize, collaborate and present research to multiple teams and leaders across the organization

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating to define best practice frameworks, research methodologies and documentation surrounding research activities at each stage of the product life cycle, from prototyping through beta testing to market scale.

  • Working on strategic need-state research to drive product innovation, while managing day to day usability and product testing.

  • Providing guidance to junior team members and colleagues, helping teams get on the right track and stay customer focused

A Little About You:

  • 7+ years of experience in full product lifecycle research mixed methodology (both qual and quant) and driving product/design decisions.

  • Professional experience in the financial media and/or financial information services industry.

  • Broad financial industry acumen including in-depth understanding of investment, portfolio and stock market tools.

  • MS/MA/MB with 7+ years experience in relevant field and comparable role

  • Working knowledge of how to drive product discovery and innovation through need-state research.

  • A healthy understanding of how to balance the fast-paced, flexible nature of research with the rigor and confidence levels present in more academic research

  • Deep experience running moderated usability labs, including expertise in task scenario best practices.

  • Exceptional communication skills and an ability to synthesize complex findings into actionable insights

  • Expert knowledge of quantitative research metrics like NPS, as well as a practical understanding of sample size, confidence levels and validity

  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods

  • Experience synthesizing large-scale data in multi-method studies

  • Experience with survey design and response effects

The compensation for this position ranges from $136,125.00 - $283,750.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
