The User Experience Research & Consumer Insights (UXR-CI) team is the core user-focused research function supporting Yahoo’s GM organizations through all stages of the product life cycle. Made up of subject matter experts leveraging qualitative and quantitative methods to understand customer needs, wants and motivations, this team provides actionable insights and recommendations that inform consumer-first strategies and product decisions.
The UXR-CI Research Senior Manager User Experience Research & Consumer Insights, Yahoo Media leads support for Yahoo News, Yahoo for Publishers, AOL News and Business Partnerships.Yahoo for Publishers (Y4P) is a brand new, comprehensive program to develop independent publishers as well as individual content creators to deliver a more robust, higher quality content experience to the Yahoo audience.
A Lot About You
You have a proven track record of shaping and delivering a wide range of generative and evaluative research projects across the entirety of the product life cycle. Thought leadership and insightful deliverables are second nature, because they are critical in enabling our partners to make better informed, confident decisions and to set the strategy for future products and features.
Collaboration with stakeholders on all levels comes easy to you. You enjoy designing and executing qualitative and quantitative research to deliver relevant and timely key findings. You are familiar with working in a fast-paced organization with agile product and design teams. Your hands-on experience in both traditional and modern approaches to recruitment, diverse research methods, and reporting allow you to facilitate strong projects and to manage and mentor your direct reports to comprehensive and impactful insights.
You have worked in digital media or a news organization, understand how users consume digital news, interact with news feeds and are well versed in creating user experience research across platforms. You may even have worked with content creation and curation teams and understand how to research content experiences.
No matter if you are engaging in usability studies, survey design, contextual inquiry, usage data analysis, card sorts or ethnographic research, you are a deep and insightful thinker who both revels in the challenge of a complex problem and can bring a fresh perspective to your work.
Responsibilities:
Lead a team of embedded UXR and CI specialists who conduct qualitative and quantitative research projects for product, design and content teams as well as strategy and sr. leadership of Yahoo's business units.
Create research roadmaps and manages internal resources and vendors to ensure the timely delivery of insightful deliverables
Develop efficient work processes and procedures fit to serve its agile product and design customers.
Coach team members about research methodologies and driving research’s pov for product/ design strategy and day to day implementation
Identify key research objectives in partnership with product, design and engineering teams to address insights needs for a variety of products and projects throughout the product life cycle.
Create deliverables with actionable insights and guide your team to synthesize results into a coherent and truthful story, as well as create effective models that reflect those results such as journey maps, process flows and user segments.
Socialize, collaborate and present research to multiple teams and leaders across the organization
Additional responsibilities:
Collaborating to define best practice frameworks, research methodologies and documentation surrounding research activities at each stage of the product life cycle, from prototyping through beta testing to market scale.
Working on strategic need-state research to drive product innovation, while managing day to day usability and product testing.
Providing guidance to junior team members and colleagues, helping teams get on the right track and stay customer focused
Basic Qualifications/;
MS/MA/MB with 7+ years experience in relevant field and comparable role

Personal and professional experience in the media industry including:
Developing audience strategies including registration processes, churn assessment and new audience/subscriber acquisition.
Strong knowledge of Media industry monetization and ad revenue growth
Assessment and optimization of News/Media content and content programming
Content creator monetization, partnership and community engagement
7+ years of experience in full product lifecycle research mixed methodology (both qual and quant) and driving product/design decisions.
Working knowledge of how to drive product discovery and innovation through need-state research.
Deep experience running moderated usability labs, including expertise in task scenario best practices.
Expert knowledge of quantitative research metrics like NPS, as well as a practical understanding of sample size, confidence levels and validity
Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods
Experience synthesizing large-scale data in multi-method studies
Experience with survey design and response effects

The compensation for this position ranges from $136,125.00 - $283,750.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
