We aim to build trust, engagement and loyalty from our audience through careful curation of content from across our portfolio of content providers, enhanced by the creation of a small amount of original content that helps our audience navigate the topics of the day.

News for Yahoo encompasses breaking political or economic news, the hottest reality TV show storylines, health and wellness updates and the latest sports storylines.

A lot about you

We are looking to rebuild our curation team for Yahoo Germany - with a focus on selecting the best mix of content from across our portfolio of partners, and providing context and clarity through the selection of imagery, headline creation and content packaging.

We are seeking a dynamic and news-obsessed Curation Editor to join our team, who take responsibility for the content of the homepage, and other distribution channels like social and ensure that we are delivering the best possible content mix and experience to our users. This role will report to the market lead for Yahoo News Germany.

There will also be a limited number of curated content formats that we could opt to create, in particular using Liveblogs to help users navigate through complex, fast moving news stories.

This role requires expert breaking news judgement, compelling headline craftsmanship, strong attention to detail and knowledge of journalistic standards and ethics. Communication and organisation are critical to success in this role, as well as the ability to manage your workload independently. There may be times when you are the sole person responsible for the curation of Yahoo Germany.

The ideal candidate loves News in all its forms, and thrives in a fast-paced setting. You know how to succeed in an ever-changing environment by adapting as priorities shift. You always lend a hand to a colleague in need and bring an enthusiastic, optimistic and solutions-oriented attitude to your work.

Responsibilities:

  • Use tools like Google trends, internal traffic data, social media monitoring and other data to help inform decision making around the most important topics of the day.

  • Using this insight, program de.yahoo.com including curation of content, headline writing, and more as needed.

  • Proactively monitor incoming content from our content partners - boosting the best, filtering out content that doesn’t fit with our desired tone of voice and content mix

  • This role will involve staggered hours - with a working week that encompasses some weekend working.

  • As needed, act as lead news editor and be solely responsible for the editorial decision making for our brand

  • You will support programming news on AOL.de - at a cadence / frequency that is to be determined.

  • You will help execute coverage plans for tentpole events across a variety of content categories, including News, Entertainment, and Ecommerce

  • You will closely track metrics to stay abreast of evolving interests across our ecosystem and use that data to inform your decision-making

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable experience curating content high-traffic digital properties

  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours, including early mornings, late nights, overnight shifts and holidays and weekends as needed.

  • Familiarity and experience with complex web content management systems, information architecture and metadata

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a high degree of professionalism over email and in person

  • Strong English language communication skills (oral and written) would be an advantage

  • Experience with liveblogging, social programming and social account management would also be an asset.
