Zillow Communications are the homepage of Zillow for many customers: they rely on our emails and push notifications to discover the newest and most relevant homes on the market, receive urgent updates to help them take the next step in their shopping journey, understand their current home’s value, and learn deep insights about their market. The billions of customer communications we send each month are a key driver of engagement for Zillow and, unlike many companies, are a central part of the product experience. In addition, we partner closely with teams across Zillow’s service offerings to connect customers to the right products and services that will help them move with Zillow.

This team is responsible to:
- Deliver right messages to the right customer at the right moment via Email and PUSH channels
- Experiment and iterate on key conversion paths and partner with other teams to share takeaways and standard methodologies
- Innovate and test new features/products/businesses

We are looking for someone who can help us deliver the best email experience to our users over several email clients on many devices.

About the role

Are you someone who gets excited about diving into the world of email development? Does ‘beating’ gmail make your day? Then we are looking for you! Zillow Group is looking for an Email Developer who can support the expansion of our custom Email Design System that supports our Zillow Group’s products.

We’re looking for someone who approaches email design and development systematically, thinks mobile-first and has a strong understanding of best practices for email development. You’ll be working directly with our Email Dev lead, supporting multiple project initiatives including module creation and maintenance for our Email Design System, plus helping to build new designs and campaigns for Operational email initiatives.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York and Washington the standard base pay range for this role is $156,300.00 - $249,700.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York and Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • 6-8+ years of experience coding and editing responsive emails utilizing HTML/CSS

  • Familiarity with testing emails in Litmus or Email on Acid

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve email rendering issues across email clients

  • Familiarity with Dark Mode in email

  • Familiarity with Accessibility in email

  • Familiarity with Interactivity in email

  • Familiarity or experience working in an ESP

  • Familiarity with Taxi for Email or similar WYSIWYG building tool experience, e.g. leveraging ESP internal builders, building for WordPress or equivalent

  • Familiarity with design systems or similar strategies applied to email development that enable scale and reuse

  • Ability to independently define timelines, milestones, and resource requirements for email development projects and initiatives

  • Ability to communicate email development technical constraints and solutions that strategically address business goals and user needs to team members, stakeholders, and executives

  • Nice-to-have:

    • Experience partnering with software engineers for utilizing complex data in transactional/operational emails

    • Familiarity with SimonData, Sparkpost, Pardot and/or Iterable

    • Familiarity with FreeMarker

    • Experience in visual design

    • Experience in using code repositories, such as gitlab
