About the team

We are the Frontline Engineering Team. We sit in the Core Technology organization at Zillow. We build and maintain systems used by sales and service operators across Zillow’s B2B and B2C lines of business including Zillow Home Loans, Premier Agent, Rentals, and ShowingTime+. We focus on solving frontline operator problems with technology and strive to supercharge our internal customers with automation and simplification, driving productivity and efficiency metrics. Because we believe it improves our return on investment, we use established platforms like Salesforce where possible and are tenacious advocates for standard capabilities versus custom solutions.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Salesforce Architect to serve as the leader of our technical domain and drive engineering excellence within our organization. Working closely with product managers, internal customers, and engineering teams, this role will be instrumental in crafting a cohesive and compelling user experience for Zillow’s frontline employees and in creating strong domain boundaries between our technical stack and Zillow’s enterprise architecture landscape.

As a Principal Applications Engineer, you will get to:

  • Collaborate multi-functionally to achieve shared goals, providing guidance and support to ensure successful project outcomes.

  • Identify system challenges and opportunities, propose innovative solutions, and drive their execution.

  • Lead evolutionary design and architecture by evolving system boundaries and integrations.

  • Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, tools, and methodologies to meet business needs.

  • Apply patterns that support technically and operationally scalable development, focusing on effective cost management within a SaaS-forward stack.

  • Model and influence a high standard of quality throughout the SDLC.

  • Represent the Frontline Engineering Team in technical discussions during company-wide initiatives.

  • Mentor senior engineers and guide tech leadership groups to facilitate continuous growth and development.

  • Advise engineering leaders on matters of technical feasibility and design.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $186,700.00 - $298,300.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • An experienced Salesforce Architect or Staff Engineer

  • A technical leader with a track record of delivering and operating high quality software solutions

  • An authority on the Salesforce platform with previous experience in a hands-to-keyboard development role

  • An expert in and advocate for using scalable integration and automation frameworks with an understanding of how Salesforce should be implemented within a high-volume, enterprise environment

  • Undergraduate degree (BS) in Computer Science or equivalent highly technical field

  • 8+ years experience working on the Salesforce platform within an enterprise environment

  • Strong understanding of the Salesforce platform’s capabilities and limitations, and a point of view on how to best leverage SaaS-based products

  • Expertise in Apex and Lightning Web Components and experience incorporating JavaScript frameworks like React, Bootstrap, or Angular

  • Expertise in web service environments, languages, and formats such as RESTful APIs, SOAP, FTP/SFTP, HTML, XML, and JSON

  • Strong knowledge of the capabilities of and experience building in AWS

  • Ability to distill customer requirements into problem definitions, resolve ambiguity, and use data to balance opposing objectives

  • Experience developing relationships across organizational boundaries, influencing designs across organizations, and informing Product roadmaps

  • Experience and passion for mentoring more junior engineers
